Education Matters Scholarship

Scholarship Application Deadline

This application is available on January 31, 2012 and is to be returned to United Way of Northeast Arkansas (407 Union Street, Jonesboro AR 72401) by April 30, 2012.

Scholarship Eligibility

Applicants must be an employee or an immediate family member of an employee of a company that had at least 35% employee participation with their 2011 United Way of Northeast Arkansas Campaign.

Graduating high school seniors or any other individual currently attending or planning on attending any accredited educational institution such as a four year college or university, technical school, or other such institution for the purpose of gaining education for a career, are eligible for this scholarship program.

Scholarship Purpose

The scholarship may be used to pay the cost of tuition, fees, and books to further the recipient’s education at an accredited two or four year college/university, vocational school or trade school in the United States. All funds awarded under this scholarship program will be paid on behalf of the recipient directly to the educational institution upon proof of registration and acceptance at the institution and receipt of invoice from institution.

Scholarship Criteria

Criteria to be used in awarding scholarships include but are not limited to an applicant’s strong prior academic performance, strong performance on standardized tests, compelling recommendations from teachers and/or others knowledgeable of the applicant’s capabilities; strong character, volunteer and community service record, strong ability, high potential to succeed, and financial need. 

Scholarship Amount

$2,000 to be paid directly to the qualified education institution on behalf of recipient.

Scholarship Renewability

The scholarship is for a period of one year and is not renewable. The recipient can, however, reapply if the qualifications for application are met in subsequent years and the scholarship program is offered.
